Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone has expressed outrage and total condemnation over the rampant issue of sexual and gender based violence in the country.
President Bio made this statement Last Tuesday June 23 when he was briefing the media on the ease of COVID 19 measures.
He noted that the depravity is obscene and objectionable and that they are committed to equal access to justice and opportunity especially for women.
“If you have the same passion that I have, the issue of rape will be a thing of the past,” he stated, noting that, the fight against rape is a fight for everyone and that parents and guardians should take responsibility for their Children.
“We are responsible for our children, the President and Government can provide the legal framework but cannot be in every home and that is why I have provided leadership,” Bio averred.
Speaking on the same issue, Minister of Gender, Manty Tarawalli said that the fight against rape is a collective fight and it must be taken to the community level.
She revealed that that there are over 20,000 Street Children in the country currently but that the Ministry is trying to do contact tracing and re-unite them with their families.
She also emphasized that parents must take responsibility of their children.
