KAMARAINBA DETAINED AT CID

The Head of Police Media, Supt. Brima Kamara has confirmed that the Leader and Chairman of the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP), Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray has been detained at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to answer to allegations that has to do with sexual penetration of a 15-year-old girl in Kono.

Supt. Kamara explained they are at the stage of obtaining statement from him for which the possibility of him been released very soon is less likely as sexual offences matters are very serious, thus bail granting is rigid according to the new sexual offences act.

He added that the Police has the discretion under Section 80 of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 32 of 1965 to grant bail or not, furthering that they also have the power under Section 17(3) of the 1991 constitution of Sierra Leone which also gives them the power to detain a person for three or ten days.

He said it is a serious matter they are looking into and that they will take a decision based on what is before them.

Supt. Kamara said they had a report that was made on the 17th July 2020 by someone on behalf of the victim and that by the look of things so much engagement has been going on as against the 14 February, 2020.

He said they have statements, birth certificate and medical report which he said are some of the things they need to arrest a person, stressing that the offence itself is an arrest offence according to the Criminal Procedure Act No. 32 of 1965 which says “anybody that is positively accused of committing a Felony, that person should be arrested even without warrant, he maintained.
