After 25 years without making, it to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) during the reign of President Bio, he (President Bio) has again qualified the team to Cameroon for the 2022 AFCON.

During his short tenure as President of Sierra Leone in 1996 as then head of the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC), he succeeded in qualifying the team and he has done it again.

Prior to the return leg match between the Squirrels of Benin and the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone which was supposed to have been played in the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown, President Bio motivated the players when he made huge promises to them should they qualify the team to the tournament.

President Bio gave his words to the boys that he will make sure that each and everyone of them receive the package of Le100 million each and a plot of land just by qualifying the nation to the Nations Cup.

Government through the Ministry of Finance, has also been pouring out huge subventions in order to facilitate matches that were being played by the team during the qualifying stages leading to the competition.

Billions of Leones have been spent by government just to make sure that the necessary resources are put in place by way of motivating the players to give their very best.

The one nil defeat of the Squirrels of Benin by Leone Stars which automatically qualifies the team to the AFCON is now being linked to the motivation of President Bio.
